Pyrope Garnet is the most famous of the red garnets with colours that range from dark to blood red with a brown tint that is distinct and attractive. This gemstone is often found inclusion free. Pyrope Garnet has a high refraction index which provides it with an impressive brilliance.

This gemstone is very durable due to its excellent hardness of 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale and absence of cleavage. Pyrope can be cut in a variety of cuts and shapes due to its hardness. Pyrope Garnets are believed to ward of evil from the wearer. Garnet is the birthstone for those born in January.
