My journey in the gemstone industry began at age 12, examining rough stones alongside my father. Those early hours sparked a fascination that has never faded — a sense of wonder at the beauty, rarity, and hidden potential locked inside every stone. That fascination became the foundation of a lifelong passion.
After finishing school, I joined the police force, completing four years of rigorous training. That period instilled the discipline, commitment, and attention to detail that would serve me well in business years later. I then turned to another passion, spending five years as a professional golfer — an experience that taught me perseverance, patience, and the quiet value of continuous improvement.
In 1995, I entered the gemstone industry professionally, and I've never looked back. To sharpen my expertise, I completed formal training in gem identification and gem cutting — knowledge that allows me to evaluate a stone's true potential at every stage, from rough material to finished gem.
Gemgold Gemstones is a proud, family-owned business built on a passion for quality coloured gemstones, integrity, and personal service. My wife, Errolene de Klerk, works alongside me, and together we're committed to helping every client find a gemstone or piece of jewellery worth treasuring.
What I love most about this industry is that no two days are the same. Every gemstone carries its own story, and every day brings fresh discoveries and surprises. My passion for this craft burns as brightly today as it did when I first started — and I intend to keep doing what I love for as long as I possibly can.
